Even Children Feel The Effect Of 9/11

MINNETONKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- A sixth grader at Minnetonka Middle School East shared his story of Sept. 11, 2001 with his classmates on Tuesday.

He was too young to have memories of the actual day, when he was in New York City with his family. But says he will forever be affected by what happened.

"Today is a day to remember the people," 11 year-old Chris Tadros told his fellow classmates.

Wearing a New York T-shirt and holding a family photo, Tadros shared a story and a message.

He was only seven months old when his parents, living in Pennsylvania at the time, took a trip to New York City.

"My mom pulled this out (a photo) today and said, 'Share this in your history class,'" Tadros said. "This is a really, really big part of history. One that affected us all."

The photo shows Tadros as a baby with his mom and dad, and the Twin Towers in the background.

The photo was taken on Sept. 10, 2001.

"What sticks with me the most is I was there," Tadros said. "It's kind of hard to believe."

His teacher, Laura Frisbie, said seeing the photo gave her goosebumps.

"It just gave me chills to know he was part of history," she said.

As Tadros shared his tale with his classmates, he found out many of them have stories from their parents.

One of his classmates named Scotty said his mom flying to New York that day.

"She was on a plane ride to New York when 9/11 was happening," Scotty said.

The class is a generation of students too young to remember that day, but who will never forget.

"I feel really sorry for all the people who are affected, I just have a lot of sympathy for them," Tadros said.

Tadros ended his speech on a positive note, telling his classmates about the two new towers being built, and the memorial dedicated to the victims.

"It's going to be bigger, and it's going to be better," Tadros said. "That's our motto in America."

Tadros and his family were outside of the city when the terrorist attacks happened.

This is the second year Tadros has brought his family photo to class on 9/11 to talk about it.
