MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 39-year-old Coon Rapids woman is accused of driving drunk, going into oncoming traffic and hitting a car head-on in a crash that injured two earlier this month in Coon Rapids, according to charges filed Wednesday in Anoka County Court.
Clarise Kabasinga was charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation in connection with the Sept. 14 incident.
According to the charges, Coon Rapids police were called to the area of Coon Rapids Boulevard and Ibis Street on the night of Sept. 14 on a report of a crash. When authorities arrived, a woman later identified as Kabasinga was driving westbound on Coon Rapids Boulevard when her car went over the median and struck a vehicle head-on. Two people were hurt in the crash, one with several broken bones and the other with several cuts and chest pain.
Kabasinga told police she had one drink earlier in the night, but smelled of alcohol. She took a preliminary breath test which revealed a blood alcohol level of .354, more than four times the legal limit for driving in Minnesota. She was then transported to detox.
If convicted, she faces up to four years in jail and a $13,000 fine.
