Boy, 4, Critical After Being Hit By Car In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a car Sunday night in Minneapolis.

Police responded to the accident at about 7 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of 11th Avenue South and East 26th Street. When authorities arrived, they learned a 4-year-old boy ran out into the street and was hit by a 58-year-old woman. That driver stopped at the scene and is fully cooperating with police.

Sgt. Steve McCarty says the little boy was running across the street, to meet his parents who were on the other side.

"Unfortunately, it's a grim reminder for all of us to be careful. As you can imagine the driver of the vehicle is pretty shaken up by this incident," McCarty said.

When police arrived to the scene, someone was performing CPR on the boy. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment and was last listed in critical condition.

McCarty said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident and that it appears to be a "tragic accident."
