Dayton Focuses On Mining With Visit To Iron Range

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton heads to Minnesota's Iron Range Wednesday to focus on the mining industry as part of a statewide jobs tour.

The first-term Democratic governor visits an ore plant in Bovey and talks with mining leaders at the Natural Resources Research Institute's Coleraine laboratory.

Last month Dayton went to Willmar to talk about farming and traveled to Grand Rapids to meet with logging industry leaders.

His Iron Range trip includes a visit to Magnetation Inc., a company that produces iron ore concentrate from tailings left over from iron mining.

Minnesota is one of the world's largest producers of iron ore, producing more than 100 million tons of taconite a year. The industry is a major employer on the Iron Range.
