MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Fasten and focus; AAA Minneapolis hopes distracted drivers will pay attention to its new ad campaign.

It’s not just directed at teens.

This ad is for drivers up to 30 years old.

“We do say 15 to 30,” said Matt Hehl of AAA Minneapolis. “Those in their 20s think they’re experienced enough and we see them get overconfident.”

He says teenagers use it to stay connected to their social life, where lots of 20-somethings use their phones to stay connected to not only friends, but co-workers and bosses, too.

“You add in those demands of being a new young professional and it’s hard,” Hehl said.

Distracted driving is the No. 1 killer of people ages 1 to 35.

Most teens we talked to get it. Now AAA hopes all drivers get the message regardless of age.

You’ll soon start seeing the ad on TV and hear it on the radio.

The group also developed a pledge to get teens and young adults to not text and drive.
