Mpls. Police, Crime Stoppers Team Up To ID Armed Cab Robber

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minneapolis Police Department's Robbery Unit is seeking the public's help to identify a man who may be responsible for five cab robberies beginning on Oct. 6.

Descriptions of the robbery suspect vary due to language barriers, but in all cases, he was armed with a handgun.

The first robbery occurred on Oct. 6 at 1:15 a.m. The suspect was picked up by a Red and White Taxi at Lake Street and Chicago Avenue and drove to the 1400 block of 11th Avenue North. The suspect then pulled out a gun and fired two rounds before fleeing with the cab driver's property.

The next four robberies all involved the suspect taking out the gun and demanding the cab driver's property. In one case, a cab driver was assaulted with a gun before being robbed.

The suspect is described as being between 5-foot-6 to 6-foot-1, has a medium build and appears to be in his 20s. He was also described as having a mustache, goatee and braided hair.

Anyone with information on these cases is asked to contact Sergeant Wallace Carlson of the Minneapolis Police Department Robbery Unit at 612-673-3856.

Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is teaming up with Minneapolis Police and is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information.
