U of Minn. Concert To Showcase Argento's Music

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The University of Minnesota's School of Music will feature the works of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Dominick Argento on Saturday night.

This year's Collage Concert will feature a selection of Argento's work throughout his career, including early chamber works and the "Valentino Dances" in a rarely performed version for orchestra and chorus.

Argento joined the faculty at the university's School of Music in 1958 and taught there until 1997. He won the Pultizer for music in 1975 for his song cycle "From the Diary of Virginia Woolf." He won a Grammy in 2004 for Best Classical Contemporary Composition, for his song cycle "Casa Guidi."

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Ted Mann Concert Hall on the university's West Bank. It is free and open to the public.
