Police: Felon Arrested After Shooting Himself On Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 46-year-old felon was arrested Monday for allegedly having a gun with which he accidentally shot himself over the weekend, authorities say.

James Kriznar, of Hibbing, Minn., shot himself in the hand with a handgun, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said. Officers found Kriznar after responding to a shots fired call Sunday night on the 4400 block of Tweten Road in Cherry Township.

An ambulance brought Kriznar to the University Medical Center, Mesabi for treatment. Investigators determined the wound was accidentally self-inflicted, the sheriff's office said.

Officers arrested Kriznar Monday; the sheriff's office expects him to be formally charged for being a felon in possession of a gun.
