PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WCCO) – The St. Cloud State women’s hockey team is stranded in Rhode Island because of Hurricane Sandy.
The team played games in Providence, R.I. over the weekend and were supposed to fly home out of Boston Monday morning, but all flights were canceled.
Huskies’ head coach Jeff Giesen said the team immediately looked for other options.
“It looked like we were going to be able to bus home, (but) then they started closing roads and pulling buses and trucks off the road, so that became not an option either,” said Giesen. “So, now we’re just waiting it out, see what happens and how the storm moves and what airports are going to open.”
The team might not get out until Thursday night, so they’re looking for some ice time to practice. They are scheduled to play Friday and Saturday in St. Cloud.
