MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — This morning we’re putting another popular “As Seen On TV” product to the test in our “Does It Really Work” series.

It’s called the “Tasty Tortilla Pan.” This one makes taco and tortilla shells without frying. It supposed to make low-fat and crispy shells, great for taco salads.

So what do you get and how much does it cost?

For $10, you get four non-stick steel pans. We wanted to see how easy they are to use and how much the shells can hold. Here’s what we found.

The directions for the Tasty Tortilla Pan are pretty simple. You put a fresh tortilla shell into the pan, bake it at 375 degrees for 10 minutes, let it cool and add your condiments or recipes for your fresh taco salad. But is it as effective as it claims?

We tested two flour tortillas and two whole wheat tortillas to see if there was a difference. When the shells came out after 10 minutes, they took on the shape of the non-stick pans. We then added some roasted corn, fresh chopped tomatoes, red onions and a Chipotle dressing.

The tortillas appear to hold up well with all the ingredients inside the taco salad. There don’t appear to be any leaks or saturation from inside the shell. The only critique is that the eight inch shell seems small, so it might be better to make a taco salad with a 10 inch or 12 inch tortilla.
