MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A federal agency says a Virginia-based defense contractor will pay $100,000 to settle allegations of racial discrimination at one of its Minnesota facilities.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says it has reached a settlement with Alliant Techsystems Inc., or ATK.

The EEOC says a black woman applied for a technical-support position at ATK’s Eden Prairie location. The agency says a recruiter initially told her she’d gotten the job, but that she was later rejected in favor of a white man.

EEOC attorney John Hendrickson said Tuesday it was clear ATK rejected her because of her skin color, not because of her skills.

A message left at ATK’s Arlington, Va., headquarters was not immediately returned.

As part of the settlement, ATK must train its entire staff on discrimination laws.
