Tips For Impressive Outdoor Holiday Decorations

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While you are busy decorating the inside of your house for the holidays, don't forget the outside. There are some simple things you can do to the entrance to your home to impress your holiday guests.

This year you can be one of "those people," the neighbors with fancy festive planters on their front steps. And it literally takes just a few minutes to great a grand entrance.

"Spruce tops are a wonderful thing to put in your planters in the winter months because they will last all the way 'til spring," Susie Bachman said. "Just fill planter up with soil. When you unbundle, put the tallest one in the middle, then on the outside, add more putting them in at an angle creating a flared look."

Bachman, of Bachman's Floral, said that once you've finished that, you can fill in the rest with additional greens like Oregonia. She said they add dimension, texture and color. Then you can finish the bottom with either white pine or cedar.

"When it comes to decorating, anything goes. You can do a natural look, using pine cones. Just nestle them in as nature does. Or use rose hips for a touch of color. The possibilities are endless."
