It’s nowhere near the snow output that we saw a week ago, but a juicy storm system will make roads very messy this weekend.

Expect steady rain in the Twin Cities through Saturday morning, before switching over to a wintry mix by the afternoon.

Surface temperatures will also play a very important role in the development of freezing rain. With readings in the 20s in western and northwestern Minnesota, a few tenths of an inch of ice could form, making for slick roads and weighing down tree limbs and power lines.

By tonight, rain should transition over to snow, with modest accumulations.

Expect 1 to 2 slushy inches in the metro, with 2 to 4 inches of snow around Montevideo, Alexandria, Brainerd and Bemidji.
