82-Year-Old St. Paul Man Hit, Killed On Snelling Avenue

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A St. Paul man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon while crossing the street at the intersection of Snelling Avenue and Highland Parkway, police say.

According to St. Paul Police, Roger Charles Solheid, 82, was struck just before 3 p.m. while walking across Snelling Avenue in the crosswalk, from the west side of the avenue to the east side. A minivan, driven by Dean Gordon Soderling, 63, of Richfield, was traveling westbound on Highland Parkway and attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Snelling Avenue when the minivan struck Solheid.

St. Paul Fire Department paramedics transported Solheid to Regions Hospital where he later died.

Soderling has cooperated with the investigation and is not currently in custody. The incident remains under investigation. A case has not been presented to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office at this time.
