MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) – The first baby of the new year in Minnesota arrived at Mankato Hospital Tuesday morning, according to officials.

At about 2:17 a.m. Angelene and Sean McClinton of Mankato welcomed a baby girl, named Kiera, to the world. She weighed eight pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 inches long at birth. This is the third child for the couple.

Hospital officials there said 1,473 babies were born in Mankato last year compared to 1,553 at the medical center in 2011. Officials said it’s the highest total since they started keeping records in 2006.
