GREEN BAY, Wis. (WCCO) – Unlike this year’s Vikings team, which won four straight to earn their playoff spot, the 2004 team limped into the post-season with an 8-8 record and a couple of regular season losses to Green Bay.

So, as you might expect, head coach Mike Tice and his team were big underdogs when they arrived at Lambeau Field for an NFC first-round matchup.

But you probably remember what happened next.

It was a blustery January day in Green Bay when the Vikings upset a Packers team 31-17.

Daunte Culpepper threw four touchdowns, including a pair to Randy Moss. Moss punctuated the day leaving his calling card for the Packers fans with his infamous “moon” over Lambeau.

Veteran defensive lineman Kevin Williams was one of three current players who played in that game.

“I remember the Moss incident with the fake moon,” he said. “Favre threw some picks, but it was still a good game.”

Long snapper Cullen Loeffler was just a rookie, but his memories are crystal clear of the postseason game.

“Going into the game we knew we played them close twice already,” he said. “It was a tremendous game, and great to be able to go there and pull off a win.”

Cornerback Antonie Winfield and the Vikings defense picked apart former Packer Brett Favre in that game. Winfield had one of four interceptions that day.

“During the playoffs, it’s a one-game season,” Winfield said.

If the Vikings win on Saturday, they would travel to play top-seeded Atlanta.
