ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered a pair of special elections for Feb. 12 to fill two open state House seats.
One of the seats is in House District 19A, which includes Nicollet County and parts of Blue Earth and Le Sueur counties. It was left open by the resignation of St. Peter Democrat Terry Morrow.
The other special election will be held in St. Cloud’s House District 14A, open after the resignation of Republican Steve Gottwalt. Both Morrow and Gottwalt resigned after November’s election in order to take new jobs.
Special primary elections will be held on Jan. 29 if necessary. A handful of candidates have already expressed interest in both seats.
Candidate filing opens Wednesday for both seats.
