ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The American Football Coaches’ Association has named St. Thomas of Minnesota coach Glenn Caruso Division III National Coach of the Year.
Caruso led the Tommies to an NCAA runner-up finish. He’s just the third Division III honoree in the 30-year history of the AFCA award to receive the most votes without winning the NCAA championship. The award is voted on by fellow Division III coaches.
Caruso is 57-8 in five seasons at St. Thomas, with four NCAA playoff berths and an 11-4 postseason record. He also won the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award in Division III.
The Tommies lost 28-10 to Mount Union in December’s Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
