The MIAC’s leading scorer whips up delectable chocolate chip banana bread as easily as she carves up opposing defenses.
St. Olaf junior Margot Fleming’s 16 points (10 goals, 6 assists) leads the league and, more importantly, has her Oles in the heat of the playoff push sitting in fifth place with a 3-2-1 league record.
Here are nine things to know about the 5-foot-3-inch wing player from Benidle-St. Margaret’s who’s managing her Counting Crows addiction.
1 – She scored nine goals total last season, making this a breakout year
I am playing wing this year. Last year, I was center and defense. I’m just playing with more confidence — it’s the position I played in high school. I know my role on the team a bit more this year.
2 – Her teammate Nicole Stumpf is scoring almost just as often (11 goals, 3 assists)
Her and I play every other line. I’m on two and she’s on two. The whole team works together well.
3 – A MIAC playoff title is her team’s dream
It’ll be challenging, but not impossible. We play better as a team in the back half of the season.
4 – The story behind her name?
Not really a story – but a lot of people mess it up and forget the “T”.
5 – Still figuring out the life plan after St. Olaf
I’m a sociology/anthropology major with a management concentration. I’m starting to look into internships – not sure what I want to do yet.
6 – Her ceramic creations adorn her Mom’s house
I took some courses in high school and have taken two at St. Olaf. It’s fun to do – they are now flower pots and bowls at Mom’s.
7 – Baking is her No. 1 pastime
I can make a really good double-chocolate cake, and chocolate chip banana bread.
8 – She’s not musically inclined, but is trying to change it
I am taking a piano class during interim. I have a duet with my roommate on Monday for our midterm recital.
9 – Her favorite…
