MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The warming tent at the 8th annual U.S. Pond Hockey Championships on Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis was evacuated late Saturday afternoon due to high winds.
A representative for the tournament says the tent was evacuated after 3:30 p.m. due to concerns about the tent’s structural integrity. Twenty-six teams were on the ice at the time of the evacuation.
The high winds have not interrupted tournament play, and fans are still watching the games.
Organizers hope to reopen the tent as soon as the winds die down.
Two hundred teams from around the world are participating in the three-day tournament in hopes of winning the coveted Golden Shovel.
