Lynx Coach Reeve To Get Special Merit Award Wednesday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve has led her team to a WNBA title and runner-up finish the last two years, and she's getting another honor this week.
Reeve will receive a Special Merit Award on National Girls and Women in Sports Day at the State Capitol on Wednesday. She appeared on WCCO-TV's Rosen's Sports Sunday to talk about the award, coaching and the Lynx.
Reeve said she is honored to represent the Lynx team and organization with the Special Merit Award.
"It's a celebration of what's gone on in women's sports but it's also an indicator we have more to do," Reeve said. "We have a lot to do to grow."
Reeve said she grew up as a kid playing baseball on a boys team because there were no opportunities for girls in that area. She said women's sports have come a long way since that time.
"I had the chance to play, but something like this gives me the opportunity to think of those that never got that chance," Reeve said.
