MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Firefighters are battling a fire at an underground electrical vault in the city’s Warehouse District, authorities say.

When the fire started, a manhole cover blew off near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 2nd Street. Witnesses said flames sprouted up from the sewer and black smoke rose into the air Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters are currently waiting for Xcel Energy to cut power to the electrical vault.

No injuries have been reported.
