COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Matt Leitner’s hat trick led Minnesota State, Mankato to a 7-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association win over Colorado College on Saturday.
Leitner scored three goals in the five-goal second period for the Mavericks (21-10-3, 15-10-1). Two of those came on the power play. MSUM went 4-for-16 with a man advantage.
Twelve different players had at least one goal or assist for the Mavericks. Josh Nelson had a goal and three assists.
Stephon Williams made 26 saves for MSUM.
The Mavericks outshot the Tigers 20-4 in the second period and 45-28 overall.
Joe Howe had 29 saves and Josh Thorimbert added nine for Colorado College (13-16-5, 10-12-4).
The game included 28 penalties for 81 minutes.
