MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Gophers senior Trevor Mbakwe had a big week, and it’s no surprise that the Minnesota men’s basketball team got two victories as a result.
Mbakwe earned Big 10 Conference Player of the Week honors after his performances in wins over Indiana and Penn State last week at Williams Arena. Mbakwe scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds as the Gophers upset No. 1-ranked Indiana 77-73. He followed that up with 13 points and 13 rebounds in his final home game, a 73-44 win over Penn State, on Saturday.
The Gophers (20-9, 8-8) travel to Nebraska and to Purdue this week before they head to Chicago next week for the Big 10 Conference Tournament. Mbakwe is fourth on the team in scoring this season with 10 points per game and leads the squad with 8.8 rebounds per game.
