Family Of Missing St. Paul Woman Feel Frustration

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's been well over one month since Kira Trevino, 30, was seen leaving the Mall of America where she worked.

As her husband, Jeffery Trevino, sits in jail charged with her murder, search crews with St. Paul Police and Ramsey County focus their efforts on Keller Lake in Maplewood.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, 50 holes were drilled into the frozen lake as dive teams accompanied by trained cadaver dogs searched the holes. Crews also lowered a sonar camera and dogs picked up some kind of scent near two of the holes, but turned up nothing.

"I'm kind of disappointed because we really didn't get the answers that we were looking for," said Jay Steger, Kira's father. "They assure us they're going to continue looking and do the best they can to bring Kira home."

Kira was last seen on Feb. 21 leaving the Mall of America. On Feb. 24, Kira's husband, Jeffery Trevino, reported her missing. Her car was found abandoned in the Mall's parking lot. A few days later, Jeffery Trevino was taken into custody after large amounts of Kira's blood were found throughout the couple's home.

Jeffery Trevino is currently being held in the Ramsey County Jail on a $1 million bond. He faces two counts of second-degree murder. If convicted, each count carries a minimum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Kira's father plans to be at Friday's court hearing when Jeffery makes his next appearance.

"I will be at all of them until this is done," Steger said. "Because I want to see justice served. My daughter deserves that."
