ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — St. Paul’s mayor is going after a third term.

Democrat Chris Coleman announced Wednesday that he will ask voters this November to give him four more years to lead the capital city.

Coleman was first elected in 2005 by toppling incumbent Randy Kelly. Coleman handily won a new term in 2009. He opted against a run for governor in 2010 after giving it considerable thought.

No big-name challengers have emerged opposite Coleman this time. The 51-year-old is in line to become president of the National League of Cities.

The St. Paul race so far is a stark contrast to the mayoral contest in Minneapolis, where there’s a wide-open race. Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak is stepping down after three terms.
