Snow Damages Roof Of Wildcat Sanctuary In C. MN

SANDSTONE, Minn. (WCCO) -- The heavy snow that fell overnight caused the roofs of the enclosures at the Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone, Minn., to collapse.

Holly Henry said it's never happened before.

"Never in our 13-year history have we seen damage to any of our enclosures," Henry said.

She said the damaged outdoor enclosures did exactly what they were supposed to do when compromised.

"The enclosures are designed to concave when damaged," she said. "And that is exactly what happened. All the cats were snuggled safely in their buildings and dens, avoiding the elements."

All of the big cats were also tucked away in their heated buildings made of concrete and steel during the storm. There was no damage to their enclosures.
