MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is once again urging motorists to “do the zipper merge” in construction zones.
It’s driving home the message that it’s safer to continue using both lanes of traffic until reaching the merge area and then alternating in “zipper fashion” into the open lane.

MnDOT is running public service announcements promoting the “zipper merge.” The agency began airing the announcements three years ago during the construction season.
