MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a man was arrested Sunday after attempted murder in southern Minnesota after an altercation at a family event resulted in gunshots being fired.

Albert Lea Police said two people were taken into custody Sunday in connection with the incident. One was later released, but 41-year-old Samuel Vallejo of Texas was arrested charged with second-degree assault, reckless discharge of a firearm and attempted second-degree murder.

Police said Vallejo and his brother got into an altercation while in Albert Lea for a family event on the 800 block of High Street/Valle Ave. The altercation escalated while the two men were outside the residence and resulted in a shot being fired from a handgun. Nobody was hurt in the shooting.

Albert Lea Police are investigating the incident with assistance from the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
