Vehicle Strikes Amish Buggy, Injuring 9 In Wis.

PIGEON, Wis. (AP) — Nine people have life threatening injuries after a motor vehicle struck an Amish buggy in western Wisconsin.

According to the Trempealeau County sheriff's office, the vehicle was traveling on U.S. Highway 53/121 at about 10:20 p.m. Friday when it struck the rear of the buggy. The department says the 37-year-old man, 38-year-old woman and seven children inside the buggy were taken to local hospitals. The 19-year-old driving the motor vehicle was not injured.

The adults in the buggy were identified as David Wengerd and Lydia Wengerd, both of Osseo. The children were not identified.

The sheriff's department says inattentive driving was a factor and the 19-year-old failed to yield to the slow-moving buggy.

A message left at the sheriff's department Saturday seeking more information was not immediately returned.
