MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a 68-year-old woman from Orlando, Fla, was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Savage on Monday that involved as many as five people.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash at about 12:10 p.m. Monday on Highway 13 at Dakota Avenue. When authorities arrived, a 2006 International tow truck was westbound on Highway 13 and turning onto Dakota Avenue with the yield sign when it was hit by a 2010 Kia Soul that was headed eastbound on Highway 13.

Authorities said the driver of the tow truck, a 37-year-old Bloomington man, had failed to yield to the Kia. The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as Maria Mendez of Orlando, Fla. She was a passenger in the Kia. The driver of that car, a  16-year-old girl, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Two other passengers in the Kia, a 68-year-old man and a 46-year-old, suffered non-life threatening injuries. According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Mendez died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. She died about an hour after the crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted at the crash scene by the Savage Police Department.
