Fire Destroys Home In Edina

EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities said nobody was injured but a home is likely a total loss after a large fire in Edina late Monday night.

Crews were called to a residence on the 6600 block of Kenney Place at around 10:30 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, there was a working fire at a residence with flames shooting from the roof. Fire officials said the homeowners were inside the residence when the fire started, but were able to get out without injury.

Fire crews had to call for a third alarm, which brought in crews from Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Hopkins, St. Louis Park, Golden Valley, Richfield and Hennepin County. Authorities said while crews were battling the blaze, part of the roof on the home collapsed over the garage.

It took crews about an hour to contain the fire from the outside, which allowed crews to go in and put out smaller fires and hot spots. Edina Fire Chief Marty Scheerer said the fire was difficult to battle because the home is at the end of a cul-de-sac.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It's believed that the fire started in the garage and spread to the rest of the home.
