Transformer Blows Up In Building Basement

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (WCCO) — Crews are on the scene of a reported explosion and fire in a St. Louis Park, Minn. office building.

According to authorities, a transformer blew in the basement of the Epicor building located off Highways 169 and 394, causing an electrical fire. The fire started around 10:15 a.m. and knocked out power to all four surrounding buildings.

According to police, the explosion pushed the electrical room doors out and the smoke was so heavy that firefighters had a hard time getting to the fire.

Epicor is a 22-story building and about 800 employees were sent home for the day.

There were no injuries.

Twelve metro fire departments responded to the three-alarm fire.
