Authorities ID Victim In Red Wing Moped Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a 49-year-old Red Wing man on a moped was killed Wednesday morning in a crash with a car on Highway 61.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as Michael Szymanski. Authorities said the crash happened just before 6 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 61 at Hill Street.

A man driving a 2005 Chevy Malibu was turning left on Highway 61 when he collided with Szymanski, who was driving a 2007 Schwinn moped scooter and traveling eastbound on the highway. The driver of the Malibu was nor hurt.

Red Wing police, ambulance and fire assisted at the scene. The crash continues to be investigated.
