MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified two people who died in an apparent murder-suicide last week in Otter Tail County.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 57000 block of County Highway 56 in New York Mills at about 9:13 p.m. last Wednesday after a 21-year-old woman reported gunshots being fired at a residence. When authorities got to the scene, they found two men who had been shot.

A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 23-year-old man was unconscious and taken to the Wadena Tri-County Hospital. That man was then airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital and later died.

Witnesses at the scene in New York Mills told authorities the 23-year-old man shot the 20-year-old man before attempting to take his own life. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office identified the 23-year-old man as Jacob Geiser of New York Mills. The 20-year-old victim was identified as Ethan Honer of Dent, Minn.
