Minn. Lawmakers Go To Atlanta With Pitch To Peers

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A contingent of Minnesota legislators and convention bureau representatives is in Atlanta trying to convince lawmakers from elsewhere to put the Twin Cities in their travel plans.

More than a dozen Minnesota lawmakers are at the National Conference of State Legislature's summer summit in Georgia. The policy group has picked Minneapolis for its 2014 conference.

Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk, House Speaker Paul Thissen and House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt are among the legislators helping staff a booth and hosting a luncheon later in the week. The menu features walleye, wild rice, fresh berry tart and "Minnesota Bistro" vegetables.

Minnesota will spend up to $100,000 to prepare for the conference. Expected revenue from attendee hotel stays, meal tabs and other expenses could more than make up for the upfront costs.
