Victim In Brooklyn Center Murder-Suicide Identified

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified a man who was shot and killed by his son in an apparent murder-suicide that happened early Monday morning in Brooklyn Center.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the victim Wednesday as 65-year-old Gilbert Ramos Avieda of Brooklyn Center. Police were called to the 1300 block of 72nd Avenue North at about 1 a.m. Monday after a father and son had gotten into a fight and gunshots were heard as authorities were on the way.

When they arrived, they found Avieda dead at the scene. His son had shot him to death before going to the downstairs of the residence and taking his own life. Police said the son's mother was also shot in the arm, but suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said Wednesday Avieda died of multiple gunshot wounds and his manner of death was a homicide.
