Madelia Hosts 5th Annual Pheasant Phest(ival)

MADELIA, Minn. (AP) -- The south-central city that bills itself as the Pheasant Capital of Minnesota is gearing up for two events on back-to-back weekends.

Madelia hosts its 5th Annual Pheasant Phes(tival) this Saturday and the 2013 Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12.

The Madelia Pheasant Phest(ival) was started in 2009. This year's event is by far the largest yet and beings with a massive clay shooting course on the city's golf course. There will be a show Saturday by the exhibition shooting team of Aaron and Steve Gould.

The following weekend, Madelia hosts Gov. Mark Dayton and his third Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener. The season opens Saturday, Oct. 12.

Madelia has more than 8,600 acres of public hunting land within 20 miles of the city.
