WINTER PARK, Minn. (WCCO) – The Vikings have three quarterbacks in Christian Ponder, Matt Cassel and Josh Freeman – but who starts against Carolina?

It won’t be Freeman – and will most likely be Cassel – but does the club have a long-term answer in the new arrival from Tampa Bay?

Freeman is big, has a strong arm and he’s maybe a couple weeks away from being able to contribute on game day.

“The Vikings are blessed with a great receiving core – tight ends and running backs, too – those guys do a tremendous job,” he said.

Cassel was riding the high of a win over the Steelers, but now he’s not sure where he stands.

“My approach is always the same – I’ll be ready to play and if my opportunity comes up again I’ll be accountable to these guys and take advantage of it,” he said.

Hard to imagine Ponder will start on Sunday.

“There’s no urgency in getting it done,” coach Leslie Frazier said.
