Target Announces It Will Be Open Thanksgiving Night

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Best Buy isn't the only retailer that will be opening a little earlier than Black Friday.

Officials with Target announced Monday morning that its retail stores will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving night. That's one hour earlier than last year.

Target is just the latest store to announce its pre-black Friday hours as they all compete for your holiday sales. Target executives said 8 p.m. felt just right, based on the competitive landscape and sentiment among shoppers and store staff.

Officials said It used to be that stores waited until 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. to start black Friday sales. But that's changed over the past several years. This year, Macy's, J.C. Penney, Kohl's and several other retail stores will be opening the night of Thanksgiving.

The 8 p.m. opening for Target allows customers to enjoy a majority of Thanksgiving with their families, then go out and get their holiday shopping fix at night.
