MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a firefighter was hurt and as many as nine adults and six children were displaced after a fire at a small apartment in south Minneapolis Wednesday morning.

Fire crews responded to an apartment complex on the 3400 block of Portland Avenue at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. When authorities arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire showing form a two-and-a-half story apartment complex. Crews entered and found heat that was trapped in the walls of one of the units.

Authorities said it doesn’t appear anybody was hurt in the blaze, but one firefighter was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for possible heat exhaustion. The residents were displaced as the gas and electricity to the building had to be turned off. The American Red Cross is providing them assistance. Fire officials are still investigating what led up to the fire.
