SHAKOPEE, Minn. (WCCO) – A 30-year-old man from Richfield died Saturday morning when the car he was driving hit a semi-truck head-on just south and west of the Twin Cities, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities said the crash happened at about 2:38 a.m. Saturday on County Road 101 at the junction with Highway 169 in Shakopee. When authorities arrived, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix was heading eastbound on County Road 101 when it collided with a semi-truck head on at the junction of the northbound Highway 169 ramp.

A 55-year-old man in the semi-truck was not hurt, according to the State Patrol. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and he was later identified by authorities as Raul Lopez-Cruztitla.

Authorities are investigating what led up to the crash. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the State Patrol with the investigation.
