MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Gopher basketball team takes on South Dakota State Tuesday night and one of the interesting story lines on this team has been the emergence of Joey king, a transfer who returned to the Twin Cities. He’s making an impact and enjoying life.
King was one of those kids that worked his way to the top. At Eastview High School he was a force. He could do it all and on many nights did just that – earning Mr. Basketball in the state.
He then accepted a scholarship at Drake University and put up a decent freshman season.
Again, his ability to compete helped earn him minutes, but a family situation brought him back home to the Gophers.
“I’m having a great experience so far and it all comes down to Coach Patino doing a great job with us so far,” King said. “The school’s just a great place to be and I couldn’t be happier.”
You can see it when you watch him. This game and this team mean a lot to him.
