MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The University of Minnesota will host its 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute on Jan. 19.

The concert will feature composer Bill Banfield and Jazz Urbane plus performances by Ysaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock, vocalist Yolanda Williams and high school students from the FAIR School in Minneapolis.

The concert will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the university’s Ted Mann Concert Hall on the West Bank campus in Minneapolis.

The late Professor Reginald Buckner of the School of Music founded the concert and began the tradition of celebrating King’s life and accomplishments through the performing arts. After Buckner’s death in 1989, the university continued the annual program.

The concert is free and open to the public. No advance tickets or reservations are required.
