MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Richard Pitino will recognize the coach down the sideline next season when the Gophers men’s basketball team opens its 2014-15 regular season.

That’s because it will be his father as they face Louisville in the 2014 Armed Forces Classic in Puerto Rico at the U.S. Coast Guard’s Air Station Borinquen. It will be the second time Richard Pitino has faced Rick Pitino, and the game will be aired on ESPN. The two met last year in Richard Pitino’s first season at Florida International, a game that Louisville won 79-55.

Next year’s contest will be played on Friday, Nov. 14, and is the third event in the annual series. It’ll be the fifth time the Gophers have played Louisville. Minnesota beat the Cardinals 70-64 in 2008.

Through 11 games this season, Richard Pitino and the Gophers are off to a 9-2 start.
