MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — This week’s Excellent Educator is introducing some of the metro’s youngest minds to the world.

Four-year-old students in Marie Zurich’s class can speak five languages, including French, Spanish and Chinese. Marie Zurich, or “Miss Marie” as her kids call her, teaches pre-school through kindergarten at Miss Marie’s Learning Center in Apple Valley.

Her goal is to expose the kids to diverse world around them at a young age.

“This is the best job I’ve ever had in my whole life,” Zurich said.

She said every day is hopeful because when you are with a group of young children, anything is possible.

Her nominator told us you can tell when she walks in every morning, she loves what she does. Zurich loves her children and loves teaching, which is something that can’t be faked. Her focus is acceptance, diversity, getting the children to communicate and building self-esteem.
