St. Cloud State To Take On Gophers In North Star Cup

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — It’s the first annual North Star Cup, and on Friday night it will allow the Gophers and St. Cloud State to meet for the only time this season.

The Huskies are back from a Frozen Four, and St. Cloud is hungry for the rivalry.

For forward Jonny Brodzinsky, playing against University of Minnesota will be special. His younger brother plays for the Gophers.

“I’ve actually never played against him besides the league back in high school,” Brodzinsky said. “It’s going to be a new experience, something I’m looking forward to.”

Playing for in the first North Star Cup means to playing for state pride.

Gopher forward Kyle Rau says his team takes the competition seriously.

“This is really important to us,” he said. “We always want to be the best in the state.”
