MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota has issued a crime alert saying that a student was sexually assaulted late Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Essex Street and Huron Boulevard.

The school says the incident happened just before 5 p.m. within short walking distance of the university campus. The victim was going west on Huron when a man grabbed her shoulder, causing her to stop. The man then grabbed her groin area over her clothing, the school said.

The victim confronted the man, and he walked away, going west.

The man is described as being between 40 and 50 years old, standing 5-feet, 3-inches tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a blue and gray jacket, dark pants, a gray hat, and glasses.

The Minneapolis Police Department is currently investigating. If you have anything information on the incident, call police at 612-692-8477.
