APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) – Eastview High School’s Wind Ensemble performs Friday at the Minneapolis Convention Center, and a piece they’re performing is an original composition by Patrick Hahn from Austria.

Hahn, 18, is a former Eastview foreign exchange student.

“[The piece] is kind of a reflection. It’s supposed to be played in a couple churches in Austria and Hungary as well, so it’s kind of kept in a more reflective style,” Hahn said.

The band’s director, Bill Henry, says he’s never came across a student who could compose such a complex piece in all his 35 years of teaching.

Eastview’s Wind Ensemble will be going to Austria in March to Hahn’s home town.

The teen will be conducting his composition with Eastview band members before his home audience.
