Mpls. 'Winter Parking Restrictions' Begin Sunday Morning
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Due to the almost 57 inches of snow that has fallen in Minneapolis so far this season, city officials will implement winter parking restrictions beginning on Sunday morning.
The restrictions effectively ban parking on the even side of all non-snow emergency routes beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, and will last until April 1, according to city officials. The ban may be lifted before that end date if conditions improve.
The ban will be implemented in order to insure that residential streets will be passable for emergency vehicles and for other drivers.
Parking will still be allowed on both sides of snow emergency routes, parkways and the odd sides of non-snow emergency routes.
Parking will also be banned on Bryant Avenue between Lake Street to 50th Street, and on Grand Avenue from Lake Street to 48th Street. Both of these streets are snow emergency routes, but because they are major bus routes and are already narrow to begin with, the city has decided to include them as part of the winter parking restrictions.
Non-compliant vehicles will be ticketed and towed. Snow emergencies may still be declared while the winter parking restrictions are in effect.
